Aljunied-Hougang Chess Club

I was asked to set up a Chess Club by my MP for his constituency. I have no experience in setting up a Chess Club but I was a member of SIA Chess Club.

What I need are suggestions and quotations from anyone who can provide me the following --

  1. Quotations for Chess Sets.
  2. Quotations for Chess Books.
  3. Quotations for Chess Clocks.
  4. Rules on Chess and types of chess competitions.
  5. Rules on Blitz Tournament.

I also need members from all areas in Singapore who are willing to take part in events organised by the Chess Club.

Are there any Chess Grandmasters around who can give guidance to members and also create attraction for Chess? Do you know any Grandmasters who are willing to come to Singapore for Chess events?

Please forward all quotations to karim_maec@yahoo.co.uk or you can give your comments in this blog.

Where Is My Sayang Manja?

karim <3 farah This is a picture of the gal that I fell in love with. Isn't she adorable?

[Hmmmm .... Oh well I posted my fiancee's beautiful picture above but had to 'hide' it otherwise she would sue me for all the money I have. Now back to my story ...]

It was love at first sight. She was a warm, caring and romantic individual who knew how to uphold herself.

The first few conversations that we had when we knew each other were very interesting. We talked and talked and talked. I enjoyed talking to her and I knew that she liked talking to me.

There were arguments as our thoughts differ but we reached to an agreement to be able to disagree about certain things.

So what is the problem?

This person whom I have known long enough is no longer the person that I used to love. Her character and attitude changed.

She became proud and starts to order me around to do things her way. I am unable to talk to her as she would hang-up the phone while I was talking. She will no longer listen to me. She wants me to say things the very same way that her mind has already set-up for her.

Where has this gal that I love so much gone to?

[Again the picture was taken out in view that I'll be made a bankrupt!]
karim <3 farah

I miss her and yes ... when I get angry or feel hurt and down, I will look at these pictures to soothe my pains.

I remember the day that both of us confessed our feelings for each other.

It was late at night and she was afraid to go home. The reason? [ I can't tell you cos my fiancee will sue me for all my money's worth ... back to my story...] I sent her home not wanting her to run off alone in the dark night.

Yes ... We had a wonderful time prior to that. Nasi ayam at Bugis. A stroll along Beach Road .... heheh ... we should be strolling on a beach!

We got closer to each other. She even accompanied me when I bought two PCs for my office.

Both of us were touched by this video we saw at Funan Centre and that was in the year 2004!

I managed to get copies of it in different languages from the net before I found this youtube link only this year! Anyway, the copy is in my mobile :-)

We got engaged to be married. I can't wait to be married to her. We talked about our future family and how we would bring up our kids. I have my views and she has hers. So to avoid any arguments, we reviewed and compromised.

We had selected names for our children. How they would be loved and cared for. What to do when I am gone ....

We do have our fears. The fear that certain parties do not like us being together. She did find under her block remnants of black magic directed at us. Someone had lit a candle and burned a torn picture of us taken together. We do not fear black magic but we feared only Allah. Insya' Allah we shall persevere.

But recently, I have difficulty talking to her. I told her that I can no longer talk to her. She irritates me. She makes me angry. She blamed me for being angry all the time. It is very frustrating when she quotes her lawyer friend's words. Doesn't she used to have her own mind? I'm angry? Me? What is the causal factor?

Actually, that was not anger. I was hurt. Anger comes from her. Whenever I tell her that I am hurt, she will get angry and irritates me. I've learnt my lesson and not to get angry. But how do you stop getting hurt?

I admit that I am an emotional guy. I get hurt emotionally easily. This is how I was brought up by my family. The only persons that understand me are my sisters. We are a closely knit family.

My fiancee was a wonderful girl. She would update me of her whereabouts. Likewise, I will do the same.

Now, I know nothing of what her plans are. When is her next examination paper? I do not know. What did she have for breakfast? What time did she sleep last night? What is her new email address that she shared with others but me? I am no longer the one person whom she would come up to when she has news.

She has her msn friends. She has her email friends and of course, her sms friends. So what about me? Oh ... I am not her friend but her fiance. Now that hurts!

Recently, when I eagerly told her that I would go with her to Geylang where she would meet her family she defensively said that it was only for family members. My heart dropped realising what she portrayed me as .... not a friend and not family .... I believed she thinks that it will not hurt to push aside her fiance.

Shall I stop asking her questions? Shall I stop caring for her? I can't cos I love her so much.

What should I do?

O Allah, I am your weak servant. Help me restore our love. Help me extinguish the fire of Hatred that is engulfing our fragile hearts. Both of us are hurt. Both of us are in pain. Help me to help us!

Allahumma antas salaam
Wa minkas salaam
Wa ilaika ya 'uudus salaam
Fahay yinaa Rabbana bis salaam
Wa adkhilnal jannatal Daaras salaam
Ta baarakta Rabbana wa ta 'aalaita
Yaa Dzaljalaali wal Ikram.

The Red Full Moon.

It was the 23rd day of Ramadhan yesterday. I had to leave my office early due to my not feeling well. I have been sneezing ... my nose is like a tap of chendol ... my bones ache ... my ears ache too.

Now when my ears ache ... that is a sign that Fever is catching up on me. I left the office at 7.30am. That's the second time I left early ... well .. it's not early since I can leave at 7am after my midnight shift. I usually stayed and monitored the next flight before I leave for home but for the two days .... I left it in the hands of my competent staff.

Took the bus home and strolled to my block.
I was thinking ... thinking ...

The Night of Power and I felt weak ... hah! What a contradiction. But the night was cold and I felt cold at that time (It was already 8.05am) ... maybe it was the night of Qadr after all!

I looked around me ... hmmm ... it was not warm ... I do not see any stars .... but hey I can see the full moon and it was RED!
I told myself ...
yah a red full moon ... so what?? Makes no diff, man!
( note: I speak that way to myself only!)

It suddenly dawned into me that it was already 8am ....
what stars? what moon? It should be the sun. But the sun was not bright and it looked small ....

I took out my O2 and snapped these pictures ...

Behold! The Red Full Moon! If you enlarge the photo, you will see the red moon.

The Shy Sun
The Sick Sun
The Blushing Sun

After four shots ... the shy sun smiled brightly. What makes the bright sun blushed?

IT WAS THE HAZE!

The PSI reading for that morning was above 100 ... not healthy for an old man like me ... hehehe

I have been having these headaches and sneezes during these periods of thick haze. The worst was when I was sneezing and slurping during the Terawih prayers at the void deck. The guy next to me felt uncomfortable. There was this Pakcik who stucked out his head to take glances at me.

So being a responsible Muslim, reluctantly, I left after 8 rakaats of Terawih. I do not want to be the cause of the congregation to get infected with whatever I was having. So I left.

I returned the next day though (last Saturday) and the Pakcik salaamed at me (it's salam not slam) ... hehehe .... This time I have my hanky with me. The day before, I had nothing.

Being Saturday, the Terawih is only 8 rakaats followed by a guest speaker. Oh yes ... the Terawih and Isya' prayers were lead by an imam from Al-Azhar again, Sheikh Al-Hafiz Mahmood Aziz. This guy recited not from the Juzu' Amma and it was excellent! Subhanallah ... how I envied his knowledge.

Ustaz Suhaimi Mustar was the guest speaker. He was the ustaz who taught me fiqh at PERGAS and he is now attached to MUIS. His sermon was about Lailatul Qadr and it's significance.

*** Fast Forward ***

Today, alhamdulillah ... I feel better. The pep talk that my fiancee gave me last night is working well. I felt motivated and look forward to getting married as soon as possible.

Or was it because we will be meeting later at 3pm???
Yeah ... told her that I have some extra cash and we could do some shopping. I will be breaking fast at her place and we will perform Terawih at her neighbour's which is lead by my future dad-in-law
Al-Imam As-Sanghafoori Al-Fadhil As-Sheikh Damri Basri Al-Haj.

I love my fiancee and her family.

May Allah bless them and provide them with continued Iman, prolonged live, the best of health, abundance of wealth and taqwa.

Ameen Ameen Ya Rabbal 'Aalameen.

Friday the 13th

I was reading the newspaper and realised that today is the 20th day of Ramadhan here but in the Middle East, it's already the 21st day of Ramadhan.

But it's Friday the 13th!

So .... what do you think? Will you get bad luck or your rightful rewards!

hmmmm ..... hmmmmm .....

Note:
We are muslims ... are'nt we all?

Assalaamu 'Alaikum.

Lailatul Qadr - The Night of Power

What is this 'Night of Power?' Is it the theme for the annual Dinner and Dance Party of Singapore Power?

No, it's not.

For the knowledgeable, it is an important night. Very elusive. Very much sought after. Very very unknown.

But why is it sought after by these people? And who are these people?

Let's read what the Quran says about Lailatul Qadr --

Surah Al-Qadr In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

[1] We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power:

[2] And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is?

[3] The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.

[4] Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand:

[5] Peace!... This until the rise of Morn!

Benefits of Lailatul Qadr

From the surah above we find out that it is Better than 1000 months. Imagine if on that day you commit yourself sincerely to Allah S.W.T, your rewards would be better than as if you had performed 1000 months of the same ibadah. How long is 1000 months? Around 83 years. How long have you lived compared to what you will be receiving? Subhanallah!

Seeking

The Muslim should seek out Lailatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last 10: the night of the 21st (the night before the 21st day), the 23rd, the 25th, the 27th and the 29th.

If he is too weak or unable to seek it out in all the odd nights, then let him seek it out in the odd nights of the last 7: the night of the 25th, the 27th and the 29th.
The Malays here call this night 'Malam Tujuh Likur.'
Wallahu a'laam.

Hmmm ....

If we knew that those nights are the nights that we need to 'watch-out' then will it not make the rest of the nights of Ramadhan especially the even numbered nights not 'worth' doing our best?

Remember, Allah is All-Knowing and he knows that some of us have heavy bones and will only do ibadah on specific nights. Sorry ... to those lazy but calculative bums. The night of Qadr is hidden from our knowledge. Have you not noticed that each part of the world have different timezones and dates?

It could be the 21st of Ramadhan in Singapore but already the 22nd of Ramadhan in Jeddah. So is the night even or odd? Allah's knowledge is bountiful! What does that mean? That means that we have to perform our ibadahs be it on the odd nights or the even nights from the last 10 days.

Achieving

Aisha radhiya Allahu `anha, that she said: “O Messenger of Allah! What if I knew which night Lailatul-Qadr was, then what should I say in it?”

He said.- “Say.-
Allahumma innaka 'affuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni

“O Allah You are The One Who pardons greatly, and loves to pardon, so pardon me.”.
[at-Tirmithi and Ibn Majah with a Sahih Isnad]

Signs of Lailatul Qadr

Nobody can tell if Lailatul Qadr befalls upon them when it happens. Nobody knows when it will happen. But only after it happened the signs are revealed.

Lailatul Qadr happens between the beginning of Maghrib and the end of Fajar the next day (refer to the last verse of surah Al-Qadr). It is after Fajar will the signs be clear.

Al-Hadith

Allah's Messenger SAW described the morning after Lailatul Qadr, so that the Muslim may know which day it is.

From Ubayy, RA who said:
that he SAW said: "On the morning following Lailatul-Qadr the sun rises not having any rays, as if it were a brass dish, until it rises up."
(Muslim, Abu Dawood, at-Tarmidhi, Ibn Majah)

From Abu Hurairah, RA who said:
"We were discussing Lailatul Qadr in the presence of Allah's Messenger SAW, so he said: 'Which of you remembers (the night) when the moon arose and was like half a plate?'"
(Muslim)
[Qaadi 'Iyaad said: "It contains an indication that it was towards the end of the month - since the moon does not appear like that when it arises except towards the end of the month."]

From Ibn 'Abbaas, RA who said:
Allah's Messenger SAW said: "Lailatul Qadr is calm and pleasant, neither hot nor cold, the sun arises on its morning being feeble and red."
(at-Tayaalisee, Ibn Khuzaimah, al-Bazzaar with hasan isnaad)

Conclusion

Ibadah to Allah S.W.T. should be sincere. Do it whole-heartedly and willingly. Yes, seek rewards for your ibadah but it is up to Allah to reward you. The month of Ramadhan has 29 days. Seek Lailatul Qadr from the very beginning of this holy month and insya' Allah if it's your rezeki, you shall receive it. Perform prayers both obligatory and supererogatory prayers. Read the Quran more. Perform abundance of Zikrullah. Recite du'as and ask for forgiveness. Ask anything and if you do not get it here surely you will receive it in the Hereafter. Rewards of the Hereafter is much much better than worldly rewards.

Wallahu a'laam.

17th Day of Ramadhaan

I've just reached home from my Terawih prayers. Today is a special day and I can feel it. It's the day the Quran was revealed to the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad S.A.W through the angel Jibril A.S.

I prayed with the residents of Simei at the void deck of block 117.

To mark this special day, the organiser had invited AlHafiz Sheikh Saad Ramadhaan to be the imam of the Terawih prayer. It was an honour felt to be a ma'mum to this imam who frequents Masjid Ba'alwi at Bukit Timah.

The imam is from Cairo, Al-Azhar and has lead prayers in Masjidil Haraam. We did the minimum 8 rakaats for the Terawih followed by the 3 Witr prayers. Subhanallah, the atmosphere was splendid. It was calming and soothing to hear the imam recite the Quran in the prayer. I believe that everyone would rather he recited the longer surahs instead of from the Juzu' Amma and they will not mind at all. How I wish I can be like him. Ameen. Insya' Allah.

Next came the sermon. The invited speaker was Ustaz Ghouse Khan Surattee, the imam of Masjid Al-Firdaus. I've been to his many sermons especially those about Sufism or Tareeqah in Masjid Khadijah. I like him. His speech always opens up my mind and today's topic was about the Miracles of the Quran in conjunction with the day of the revelation of the Quran.

Ustaz Ghouse talked about how the Orientalists like to calculate exact dates of when an event took place. They had even known when the Veda, the Hindu scripture was written i.e. 5000BC.

But when it comes to the Quran, they were dumbfounded. Why? It is because the Quran talks about events that took place during Muhammad's time (The Present).

The Quran relates stories before The Prophet's time. It talked about events of the Past. It talks about events before the Creation of the Universe.

Not only about past events but the Quran talks about events of the Future. It talks about what happens when you die. It talks about the Hereafter (Akhirat).

So how are they going to date when the Quran was written? Impossible!

Had they known about Lauh Mahfuz (The Guarded Board) where the Quran was kept prior to being revealed to the Prophet Muahammad S.A.W. they would have known that their effort would be fruitless. Allahu a'lam!

There are many who tried to prove that the Quran is not perfect. They did not succeed. The Quran is the word of Allah and whatever that is said in the Quran is the truth. When the truth is said, nothing can change it! The Quran is the same as always.

Ustaz Ghouse pointed out that of all the enemies of Islam, there were only 2 persons that had the opportunity to proof the Quran wrong. They were Abu Lahab and his wife.

The Quran spoke of both husband and wife and how they will burn in Hell via surah Al-Masad.

Surah Al-Masad

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

[1] Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! perish he!

[2] No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains!

[3] Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of blazing Flame!

[4] His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood; As fuel!

[5] A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck!

This surah was revealed when both Abu Lahab and his wife were alive! They heard repeated recitations of this surah by their own ears. They can proof that the Quran is not right about them. How? By converting to Islam!

Yes, if they had converted to Islam, they would not have to burn in Hell and by doing so prove the Quran as erroneous. They have a choice of to be a Muslim or burn in Hell as a non-believer of Islam. Their minds and hearts were fixed. The Quran states the truth because Allah's knowledge is unlimited. Allah knew that their minds and hearts will not change, hence relates the story of Abu Lahab and his wife in surah Al-Masad. Allahu Akbar!

The event ended with Sheikh Saad Ramadhaan seated in front performing his solo Qasidah.

Subhanallah! What a performance.

That's all I can blog at the moment. I had a terrible day earlier but the Terawih rewarded me with a better spirit.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Aalamiin.

Wassallam.

Nuzul Al-Quran Al-Kareem

It is the 17th day of the holy month Ramadhan. This is a historical day due to the very fact that the first ayat of the Quran was revealed today to the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. through the angel Jibrail A.S.

Don't just point. READ! Don't just point. READ!
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

[1] Proclaim! (or Read!) In the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created,

[2] Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:

[3] Proclaim! and thy Lord is Most Bountiful,

[4] He Who taught (the use of) the Pen,

[5] Taught man that which he knew not.

[6] Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,

[7] In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.

[8] Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).

[9] Seest thou one who forbids,

[10] A votary when he (turns) to pray?

[11] Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?

[12] Or enjoins Righteousness?

[13] Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?

[14] Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?

[15] Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,

[16] A lying, sinful forelock!

[17] Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):

[18] We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!

[19] Nay, heed him not: but bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!

The Hijab and Nature.

karim <3 farah karim <3 farah

karim <3 farah
Below is an extract of an article I stumbled upon a long time ago which I saved. This is in support of those muslimahs and their hijabs. The above pictures were taken from The Hijab Shop.

The Elegant Hijab

The pea is a splendid plant. It proudly displays its strong green Hijab. Which protects it from the hot and cold weather and guards it from insects. Allah has blessed the pea with a special Hijab, because without it, the seeds would scatter, dry up and die.

The orange keeps itself within its shiny orange Hijab to protect its delicious fruit. Otherwise it loses its taste too.

So are the banana, the coconut and the pomegranate. Each one has an elegant and unique Hijab, which protects it from disease and destruction.

The jewel of the sea, the pearl, has been given a very tough and rugged Hijab - oyster shell. It protects it from sea animals and keeps it sparkling and shining inside.

However, the most beloved of Allah in all His creation is the Muslim girl who wears the Hijab. She knows it is a gift from Allah. It protects her from harm, injury and mischief. She wears it knowing it gives her dignity, beauty and respect. So precious she can be that she hides herself beneath her Hijab.

Do you wear a Hijab? Give it a try today.

Sorry, she is taken but the Kangaroo is still available.

Doesn't my Sayang Manja look sweet in her hijab? That is her one of a kind pose with Datuk K .... Datuk Kangaroo laa ... hehe

I love her and I admit that she looks sweet in her hijab. I am proud that she wears her hijab without me asking her to. She does it willingly. This is an example of a Muslimah.

May Allah provide her strength and character to uphold her islamic ways and with the blessing of Allah may I be able to give her support of any kind.

Ameen Ya Rabbal Aalameen.

The New AMERICAN Quran: a dangerous trick

This is NOT the Holy Quran! To my muslim brothers and sisters reading this blog. I would like to highlight a new book that has been in the market that spreads anti-Islamic message in the guise of a holy book, ' The True Furqan.'

This new Quran is being distributed in Kuwait. It is being described as the ayats of the Syaitaan and Al-Furqan weekly magazine has found out that the two American printing companies, 'Omega 2001' and 'Wine Press' are involved in the publishing of 'The True Furqan', a book which has also been titled 'The 21st Century Quran'!

It is over 366 pages and is in both the Arabic and English languages. It is being distributed to children in Kuwait in the private English schools!

The book contains 77 Surahs, which include Al-Fatiha, Al-Janna and Al-Injil.

Instead of reciting the Basmalah (Bismillah), each Surah begins with a longer version of this incorporating the Christian belief of the Trinity.

This so-called Quran opposes many Islamic beliefs. In one of its ayats it describes that having more than one wife as fornication, divorce being non-permissable and it uses a new system for the sharing out of the will which is opposing the current system.

It states that Jihad is HARAAM.

This book even goes as far as attacking Allah, Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala!

All this is poisoning the children of Kuwait at approximately $3.

I found the website amazon.com selling the book at $49.00 .... NO!
I will not link this blog to that site lest I be dragged to the Hellfire for introducing the book to the weak of faith in Islam.

However, these are the reviews that I picked and posted for your perusal --

Don't even waste your time or money on this book. It belongs in the garbage. If you want real poetry and real divine words, the Holy Quran is available, unchanged from the time it was revealed by Jibreel to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) hundreds of years ago. I'd also like to note that most of the positive reviews (5 stars) for this book come from people with stereotypical "Muslim" names and this is the only thing they've reviewed on this site or they review similar books but put the same review, promoting this garbage book. If you see a positive review for this book, just click on "Read my other reviews." Obviously, they were all written by people who work for the publishing company because they can't get genuinely positive reviews. They use fake Muslim names to make it seem like Muslims like this book. Nice try!

Let me tell you something. Ages and ages back, men recieved guidance by way of prophets and messengers who wrote down the word of GOD. Unfortunately it was due to later man's own vice and corrupt nature that he changed its contents to befit his own agenda. Among those inclusions was the advent of the Trinity (created some 300 hundred years after the 'death' of Christ.) which continues through modern day to be the prominant Christian theory of the nature of God. Now once you read this book, it becomes evident that it actually an attempt to integrate the religions of both Christianity and Islam in order to benefit the Christian religion and draw more believers. WHY SO? Because more and more people are realizing that the TRINITY is just a hoax, a man-made one at that, which cannot be explained by even the most knowledgeable of clergy members. This has been done by copying the Arabic words used in the Quran and Arabic script on the right side and trying to mimicking the Glorious Quran. For all those people who have found this work to be beautiful, yes you would, because some of the rhetoric you refer to as poetry has been 'inspired' by the true Quran itself although the content is absolute garbage to the Muslim. Sorry, no offense intended, but this is not a book for Muslims. For all you Christians and Zionists out there, have a good time reading this book and take what you will from it. But none of you will find the fulfillment, peace and resolve from this so-called duplication of the original Masterpiece, the one and only Quran. Fellow Muslims, our faith is too deep and we have all come across many non-believers who have tried to demean our faith, but they fail to understand the depth of our allegiance to our Lord. We will never leave Islam for anything. We will live and die as Believers. Woe to those who try to defame Islam and our Loving and Merciful God Allah! May we always be united and stand strong against those who oppose. Ameen!

This is very sad indeed,

Anyone who has any intelligence and knowledge about Islam would know that this is a fake Qur'an. The Qur'an in its original Arabic has never been changed or tampered with.. God knows all things. Anyone who wants to know about Islam should study the faith with sound and correct materials and not be mislead. May peace and blessings be upon us all. Peace.

This item is not the holy qu'ran and is only a michievous act of the devil. Allah will punish all of those who tamper with His divine word. This is not like the Bible where man has been able to change it time and time again. The Qu'ran is not to be changed and this is not the words of the All-Mighty, please do not purchase...please do not purchase or support this book please buy a real Quran.

Again my advice is that we should not aggravate this situation. I do not want to promote free advertisement for this unholy book nor do I want others to be misled by this cheap trick. It's only a trick and Allah is the best of all planners!
